Autogyaan: Hyundai’s new Sonata Priced at Rs 18.52 lakh

Hyundai has launched the new Sonata premium sedan priced at Rs 18.52 lakh for the manual version and Rs 20.61 lakh for the automatic variant. The car was recently shown at the Delhi Auto Expo in January. The Korean automaker is keen to penetrate this segment after doing brilliantly in the hatchback and entry level segment . This sixth generation Sonata has been severely upgraded and now boasts of interesting features like front and rear seat ventilation, front seat warmers, high intensity Xenon head lamps, cruise control, paddle shift, 10-way adjustable power seat with lumbar support and a 4-way power adjustable front co-driver seat. The sixth generation Sonata takes forward the 'Fluidic Sculpture' design philosophy already seen in its smaller sibling, Verna. Also, it is only available with a petrol engine — the 2.4 litre GDi, similar to the Honda Accord (Rs 20.28 lakh) and Toyota Camry (Rs 21.58 lakh). Segment leader Skoda Superb (Rs 19.6 lakh), however, is also available with a diesel burner. Other features include front and rear seat ventilation, high intensity Xenon head lamps, rear view camera, LED combination rear lamp and paddle gear shifters. A mighty impressive 2.4 liter GDi (Gasoline Direct Injection) petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions on the new Sonata offers enhanced performance and fuel efficiency. The engineering excellence is extended to the suspensions by way of having hi-tech ASD (Amplitude Selective Damper) resulting in improved driving comfort. The 2012 Hyundai Sonata is high on safety and is equipped with 6 airbags, electronic stability program (ESP) with traction control system (TCS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and rear view camera for added convenience when trying to park or maneuver the vehicle in tight spots. Standard up quotient features like smart key with push button start and an eye catching VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display) cluster and an X-shaped centre fascia should make the new Hyundai Sonata stand out amongst all its high pedigree competitors, the likes of the Skoda Superb, Volkswagen Passat and Honda Accord.
