Need A Nifty Web Browser For Your Android Phone/Tablet? Try Maxthon [Android 1.6+]

Last year, Matt took several popular Android browsers for a spin , comparing Firefox , Opera Mobile , Dolphin Mini and HD , xScope, Skyfire and the stock Android 2.2 web browser. Firefox came out on top in that article, but there are many other browsers that were not discussed. Today, we will take a look at Maxthon , an award-winning and speedy web browser that has versions available for Android phones and tablets . Maxthon also has a desktop browser that is focused on speed and another version that was featured on MakeUseOf four years ago and began as an extension of IE, as well as a kid-safe browser . The Maxthon developers certainly have a lot of experience with browsers, so let's check out how this vast experience translates in features for the Android versions. Sync Desktop Browser Bookmarks Maxthon 3 is the latest desktop browser offering that is also available as a portable app for USB/flash drives. Maxthon 3 has transitioned beautifully since the days that we first took a look at Maxthon . One of the features that make it a great choice for people on the go is the Maxthon Passport feature. You essentially sign up for an account so that your bookmarks on the desktop browser can be synced securely to any other installation of Maxthon, whether it be on a computer or a mobile device. This feature is available for both mobile and tablet versions of Maxthon. Customizable Gestures If there are certain actions you perform a lot, like opening a new tab, switching between tabs, etc. Maxthon most likely has gestures for you. With gestures, you basically draw a certain shape that corresponds to an action, say switch to the left tab, and you will be switched immediately to the left tab obviously. Here are other built-in gestures for common actions. You can download an extra add-on called Advanced Gesture to create your own gestures for actions not found natively. Here in the following screenshot, I have set up a gesture to launch MakeUseOf.com. Plenty Of Additional Useful Features If you use your tablet to read news or blog updates, with Maxthon, you won't need a separate app for catching up with your favorite news sources as Maxthon has an RSS reader add-on that is available for free. Other neat little features include the gorgeous new tab page, also known as Quick Access page where you will find a few popular website links. You can also always add some of your favorite links, either from your synced bookmarks or another site. This feature is also available on the mobile client. Another convenient feature would be the live URL suggestions that make it much easier and faster to navigate on a mobile device as you will not have to type the whole URL in an already-tiny screen. Another handy feature is the ability to browse privately. In the tablet version, you simply head to Options > Privacy & security to then check off Browse in Private Mode . You can also simply choose to erase your history when you exit Maxthon. If you are on your tablet or your mobile phone, you know how annoying it can be when you need to connect and sync your device with your computer. Wouldn't it be handy if you could simply download items (like Facebook pictures) from the web instead? With Maxthon's built-in download manager, downloading will be as simple as typing in the URL of the item. Overall, Maxthon is a great mobile browser with many neat features that could truly turn it into your favorite browser and make surfing on your mobile device a pleasure.
