| Images of murals and artwork of New York City's historic subway and rail system can now be viewed on your iPhone or Android with the latest update of a Meridian iOS and Android app produced for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) system. Spotlight Mobile's Meridian is a personal tour guide app listing all the permanent artwork of the MTA transit system. The actual artwork can be seen inside of the transit lines and railroad stations throughout NYC. The mobile app also features artwork exhibited in all of New York's major tourist hotspots, including Penn Station, Grand Central terminal, Harlem Line, and Port Washington Branch. The tour guide is categorized by transit line and artist. And each listed image includes the name of the artist, and a description of the artwork, including the date or year it was completed. All content can be keyword searched. The app also features a trip planner, and a built-in map, including turn-by-turn directions, that helps users navigate through the MTA system. In addition to NYC, Meridian also features guides for currents events and points of interest for the San Diego's Balboa Park, the Oregon Convention Center, Portland Timbers' JELD-WEN Field, and even turn-by-turn directions in the book stacks, rooms and facilities of Powell's bookstore–one of the world's largest—in Portland's metropolitan area. Meridian is a free app, requiring iOS 4.0+ or Android 2.1+, and is among several dozen other MTA mobile apps found in the website's Apps Center .
